Martha L Stoneburner Walton, age 76 of Janesville, WI passed away on March 27, 2017. Martha was born February 10, 1941 in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of George Arthur Scott and Martha Bernice (Myers) Braham. She graduated from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, in 1963, with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Christian Education and from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary education. She also did graduate study in Christian Education at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.
On August 29, 1964, she married A. Wendell Stoneburner, Jr. in Cincinnati, Ohio, and to their union were born two daughters who survive: Sara (Brian) Silvers, and Gwen (Pat) Schoenheide, three grandchildren (Nicole Silvers, Jon Silvers and Matt Dix. The family lived in Manawa, Algoma, Kenosha , Wausau, and Antigo, Wisconsin. During those years, Martha served as Director Educational Ministries at First United Methodist Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin, taught elementary school in the Little Wolf Unified District (as a substitute), the Luxemburg-Casco School District, and the Antigo Unified School District as a student teacher and classroom aide. She also held several volunteer positions in the Wisconsin Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was also employed by the YWCA in Wausau, Wisconsin, Cards ‘n Stuff in Antigo, Wisconsin and the Antigo Veterinary Clinic.
On March 1, 1989, Martha became an Associate Member of the Wisconsin Conference Council of Ministries serving in the areas of Christian Education and Youth Ministries for the Wisconsin Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. On July 1, 1989, she became an Associate Member of the East Ohio Council on Ministries serving in the areas of Christian Education and Lay Ministries for the East Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Martha returned to Wisconsin, September 1, 1994 as the Director Educational Ministries at Cargill United Methodist Church in Janesville where she served until her retirement, February 28, 2002.
On December 21, 2002, she married Thomas J. Walton in Evansville, Wisconsin and lovingly incorporated a stepson, Paul (and his spouse, Stephanie) Walton, two grandchildren Levi and Brooke into the family.
Martha was a member of the United Methodist Church since 1953 and was currently a member of Cargill United Methodist Church in Janesville, Wisconsin.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Cargill United Methodist Church, 2000 Wesley Avenue, Janesville with services to follow at noon. The Masonic Ceremony of the Three Roses will precede the memorial service. Rev. Susan Lockman and Rev. Forrest Wells will officiate the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family is pursuing a memorial fund to support Martha’s passions. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, (608-741-1713).
